Are you shopping around for power scooters? They can really transform the life of someone who feels trapped inside and is unable to get out and enjoy the outdoors because of limited mobility due to arthritis, weak legs, a bad back, or some other condition. Here are the questions you want to ask the sales person when you are shopping for a scooter:

1. How long has this model been out for? (A model that’s been out for a few months or a few years will have been “road tested” by other users so it will uncover any problems before you get it).

2. Is it front wheel drive (sometimes called “mid” wheel drive) or rear wheel drive?

3. What is the clearance on this scooter? (This will help you know how big of bumps you can go over if you have to).

4. How much does this power scooter cost?

5. What features does it have?

6. What is the difference between this scooter and power scooters that are slightly more expensive and slightly less expensive. (Asking this question will help you determine how they are pricing their extra features…you might find a less expensive scooter that suits your needs or you might find that a slightly more expensive scooter is far more appropriate for you).

7. How fast will this scooter go? (Of course you don’t want to join a race, but it’s important to know how fast it goes because you don’t want to be surprised by the top speed if you accidentally press it to go that fast).

8. How far will the scooter go on this battery?

9. How long with a recharge take?

11. What accessories are available for this scooter?

12. How much more does a canopy cost?

13. Which tires do you recommend for the type of driving that I am most likely to do? (Here, you’ll have to tell the sale associate what kind of driving you do: do you stay mostly indoors or do you like to go outdoors or do you like a mixture of both? If you like to go outdoors, you’ll have to tell the associate whether or not you live in an area that can get muddy or snowy.)

14. How often should I get my scooter tuned up? (Remember, power scooters are just like cars in that they need to be tuned up periodically).

15. Is there a service plan and a warranty?

16. Are there other options available? (Don’t buy the first power scooter you see that is in your price range without checking on the available options

Power scooters can provide you with a renewed sense of independence and freedom. Use this list of questions to help you find the right power scooter for your needs.

It doesn’t matter where you are, as long as you are not in one of those hi-tech labs or anything, you will be encountered with polluted air. These days air purifiers are being sold with the promise of cleansing this air. But before you invest on an air purifier it helps if you understand what are the sources of pollution and how air is actually polluted.

A) Pollution due to Particulates: Generally not visible to the naked eye particulates would be made up of dust, dust mites, dust mite feces, pet dander, skin flakes, pollen, smoke particles and allergens.

Generally a purifier with HEPA filters and the ionizers together are good enough to deal with the particulates.

B) Pollution caused by Odor: The source of odor can be wide ranging. It can be coming from food, pets, our own bodies, cigarettes, clothing, etc. Although odors are not necessarily dangerous, but they can leave you with an unpleasant feeling which you wouldn’t want.

The purifiers which have active carbon filters in them are the best to deal with the problem of odor.

C) Pollution caused by Microbials: Microbials would include bacteria, fungi, mildew, mold spores and viruses. Normal filters wouldn’t be able to deal with them as some of them can be as small as .001 microns. Compared to that HEPA filters can be effective for anything above the size of 0.3 microns. Microbials have their homes in warm, damp places like under the carpet, in the walls and in the heating and and air conditioning ducts of our homes.

The best way to deal with microbials is to have those devices that can produce oxidation. They help in killing these microbials.

D) Pollution caused by Chemical Fumes and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC): The source of this pollution are chemicals like benzene and formaldehyde. The fumes of these are constantly being released by our carpets, upholstery, furniture, draperies, household cleaning products, etc. Other sources would include cigarette smoke, construction materials, etc. Many of them have been identified as carcinogens.

The best available solution today in the market are those devices that produce oxidation. This is a serious kind of air pollution and must be dealt adequately.

Now that you are acquainted with all the major types of air pollution you are in a better state to deal with them. Knowledge brings power, and now you have the power to choose rightly, to choose the exact air purifier you will need.

With gas prices continuing to climb, many are looking for ways to lessen the cost of traveling, especially for the commute to work or school. There are many ways to do this. Some people carpool. Some utilize public transportation system and others walk. Some are switching to smaller cars. And some are going to one of the cheapest forms of motor transportation available – scooters.

Scooters can get amazing gas mileage to make your stops to the gas station few and far between. And some scooters are electric, making gas and motor oil unnecessary. However, they aren’t always practical if you have a very long commute.

Scooters that are street legal can generally keep up with the speed limits inside city limits, but not always outside. They are very practical and useful for those who don’t have to travel a long way outside of city limits. However, traveling thirty miles an hour could make a forty mile trip take a lot longer than it should.

Not all scooters are too slow for the open highway. Keep in mind what you are looking for when you go looking for a scooter. Ask any questions that you should ask, such as how fast a particular scooter should go, whether it should go off road, and general maintenance.

Now that you’ve heard the one downside of driving a scooter, you may be a little turned off. You may think that scooters are too slow and they are only for dweebs and those who have nowhere to go. However, you should know that the dweeb image is being turned around. There is actually scooter racing, even on the little scooters. Thirty-five miles an hour may seem really slow on the open highway, but on a racing track it can be very fast. These little engines can actually get the average person pretty far off of the ground.

A scooter could be great for your child’s first mode of transportation. Not only can they take them to work and school and back, they can do it cheaply. Also, most adolescent wrecks happen when multiple people are in the vehicle. That is not really an option on a scooter, which may help lessen the parental worry.

Also, scooters and their fuel, if any and maintenance can be very affordable for a person with a low paying or part time job. This can be great for the student with only an after school job.

Scooters can be great for economic efficiency, but they can also be for recreational purposes, depending on what type of scooter you purchase. Keep in mind your purpose for getting a scooter when you purchase one. If it is for riding around town, make sure that you get a model that is street legal.

Electric scooters are not only economically efficient; they are good for the environment. Without the gas and oil to burn, electric motors create less pollution for a environmental friendly ride.

If you are online shopping for power scooters, this guide will help you find the kind of power scooters you are looking for. There are several kinds and we’ll look at each one.

Children’s power scooters. Perhaps you’ve seen children driving around on what looks to be a small skateboard with wheels in the front and rear, and handles…those are called scooters and they come in the traditional foot-power model as well as an electric version, too. They actually come in two sizes: the smaller size uses wheels that look like they came off of a roller blade: the whole scooter is very small, as is the engine. The larger kind use wheels similar in size to a child’s bicycle and the base and the engine are much bigger, too. They take small batteries and are very popular among school aged children. These scooters can retail for anywhere between $30 and $200, depending on the brand and the power attachment.

Electric power scooters. Another type of scooter, popular among an older generation, is the scooter that allows people with limited mobility to get around easily. These are fairly wide and have a single chair and handlebars…and usually basket in the front. They can come in 3 or 4 wheel models. They are powered by a battery under the seat which is about the size of a car battery. These batteries are rechargeable and allow the scooters to go up to about 8 miles per hour. These scooters can cost anywhere between $1000 and $8000, depending on the accessories and the power of the motor as well as the design (since some are mainly for indoor use while others are built heavy duty to handle all kinds of weather).

Gas power scooters. Similar to the electric power scooters, gas powered scooters offer mobility to adults who are not able to get around quickly or for longer periods of time. These are not nearly as popular because of the noise of the small motor and the smell of gas after filling up the tank. In fact, these are increasingly rare as people turn to the electric power scooters for the increased safety they assure.

Dog powered scooters. Yes, you read that right. There are dog powered scooters. They look similar to the children’s scooters except that they have a harness to connect the dog to. The dog runs along beside the scooter and the scooter operator steers and assists movement with his or her foot. At first, this may seem very unusual way to power a scooter but the dogs seem to take to it, since some dogs are naturally hard working dogs. (Consider the husky, for example, who live this kind of hauling life in the far North).

Solar power scooters. As more and more people become concerned over the rising costs of electricity, they are turning to solar power to help them operate their scooters. Very little changes with the design of the scooter; the bigger change is in how the battery itself is recharged. You can get a solar charger and keep it at your home. You may also find one that will fit on the canopy of your scooter. Online are a few different do it yourself kits to turn your electric scooter into a solar powered one.

On any given day, the weather trend is usually the first subject of conversation. During the past month, anywhere you go in the United States, the price of gasoline has become a primary topic to complain about. Most people, and businesses, feel helpless when looking toward winter’s fuel bills.

Will dispensing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve help us? If you think short-term – Yes; it will help temporarily.

In fact, you can expect to see products and services increase in price due to the price of fuel and transportation. This is only the beginning of economic change. Many of the “Mom and Pop” businesses may not be able to adapt fast enough to handle the upcoming heating bills. Many of the local businesses, in my area, are still “smarting” from last winter’s fuel bills.

So what can we do? There has been a flood of Emails that tell us to boycott a particular oil company, but nobody can agree on exactly which company to boycott. Most oil companies are considered “greedy corporate giants,” with questionable political agendas, by the consumers. If we are going to be driven out of business, and into an economic disaster, it is time to declare economic warfare on the largest oil companies.

Sorry to choose such strong words and opinions, but this has gone on long enough. Osama Bin Laden may not feel that you are paying enough at the pump, but you don’t have his millions to pay your fuel bills with.

There is also an effort to stop buying gasoline on a particular day. Every business deals with ups and downs, but you have to come back to the pump; a day of poor sales isn’t going to matter to multi-millionaires. However, a month, or a season, will wake them up.

If we made a serious commitment to walk or bike more, we would all be healthier, and send a message to the oil companies. Granted, many of us commute great distances to get to work, but taking the car around the block to pick up a half-gallon of milk is ridiculous.

A little self-discipline goes a long way. Get rid of all gas guzzlers and don’t even think of buying one. Does anyone really need a 5.7 liter hemi? What are the auto manufacturers thinking? This is total gluttony, and we all know that the world’s oil reserves will run out, so let’s conserve what we have.

In your home, or business, you should insulate everything possible. Many people, and businesses, already have done this, but heat is becoming too precious a commodity to take for granted.

Write your local legislators about alternative fuel sources. Let them know this is an important election issue.
They have all sat on their rear ends long enough. Foreign oil dependence has become our foreign policy; it’s time to become self sufficient.

The oil companies are currently engaged in price gouging, but we are not helpless. If we conserve, and get some action from government, it will be for the common good.

While many realize that global warming is occurring on our planet, few understand the implications that this may have on our way of life. These rising global temperatures are going to cause a host of changes on our planet, and we need to act now or prepare to adjust to some very profound changes.

First, these rising temperatures present a huge threat to our ice-caps. Layers of ice that have not melted for thousands of years are beginning to break apart and fall into the ocean. One of the biggest ice sheets on the planet, located on Greenland, is at a great risk of splitting apart and falling into the ocean. While it doesn’t sound like too big of a deal, the loss of the Greenland ice sheet will cause catastrophic circumstances world wide. The world’s sea level is expected to rise as much as 23 feet when the sheet falls, and that spells disaster for the coastal cities that represent some of the largest and most important centers of trade and commerce across the planet. Manhattan would be sunk; much of Florida would be underwater, and that’s not even to mention the worldwide consequences. Every area of the globe would be affected by this rising of sea levels, and the disaster caused would make hurricane damage seem like a blessing. Millions of refugees from the coastal cities will be without home or workplace; it would be one of the hugest human issues ever faced in our history. The changing of the climate could also affect a host of circumstances on our planet; crop yields can be affected by the rising temperatures, which would also pose significant problems to a planet of refugees. Much of the land may become barren due to the effects of temperature change, and we may find some of our most arable lands subject to the effects of soil erosion, and eventually, a transition into desert land. Also, water supplies, forests, and plant and animal life would be affected by the planet’s changes, and we may not be able to see how significant these changes may affect our lives until they are already upon us. For that reason, it’s important that we increase our knowledge of global warming, and do our best to prevent it in the coming years. While it may have adverse affects on our economy and our way of life, we owe it to our children to give them a peaceful, safe planet to grow up in.

Outdoor residential lighting can serve many purposes. Practical purposes include allowing persons entering your residence after dark to see where they are going. Residential lighting also helps to prevent burglaries. Aesthetically, outdoor residential lighting placed strategically in your garden can bring out the beauty of your garden and your house. Residential lighting also serves to lengthen the time you spend outdoors entertaining or playing by illuminating your outdoor gatherings.

Getting Set up

Hire a professional to install the wiring to avoid hazards associated with faulty wiring.
Install the lights where they will have the maximum effect. Like along the pathways to light walk routes. A lightened water feature can be very attractive.
Do not over do the residential lighting or it will likely have the opposite effect.
In residential lighting, the lights should not be the focus of the dcor but the features that are being lightened.
Hide the lighting system behind plants or garden features.
Use soft lights bright lights can be disturbing.
Residential lighting should be resistant to the elements

Types of Lights

Solar lights: A Solar light is the easiest and safest residential lighting to install and use. There are a variety of styles and designs of solar lights. A solar light can be used whereever regular residential lights are used. A solar light is safer than an electrically wired light as solar lights do not have wiring. They use a photocell, which charges a battery during the day. The battery in turn works the light at night. Solar lights work well where the power supply is inaccessible. A solar light does however require unobstructed sunlight to charge their batteries. Once charged the batteries can keep the lights lit for up to 15 hours.

Patio or Deck Lights: Candles can be used as patio lights, especially citronella candles that keep bugs at bay. Safely installed Tiki torches can also be used to provide lighting on your patio. If you use electrical lights choose their location carefully. Lights at the wrong level can shine into your guests faces. You can recess the lights, have lights on posts or install accent lights. Choose a style that is functional for your style and function.

Tier, Path and Accent Lights: This kind of lighting allows your garden to look beautiful and enchanting all year round. These residential lighting fixtures are normally low-voltage lights which are easily installed, affordable, and double the amount of lighting, which could potentially make the outdoor feel safer.

There are kits available that allow you to install your own residential lighting fixtures, but if you have any doubt call a professional. Poorly installed lights lead to disappointing results and can present a potential hazard.

In recent years, architects, builders and developers all over the world are emphasizing more on \”environmentally friendly\” building structures. They have initiated a green revolution called \”Building Green\” in the building and construction industry. The Pre-Engineered Building suppliers and manufacturers are at the forefront of this revolution.

A Pre-Engineered Building is a building structure that consists of pre-engineered, pre-fabricated factory components that are combined together and engineered structurally so that each component works together as one \”system\”.

Pre-Engineered Buildings help you in building your structures easily and conveniently be it homes, buildings offices, aircraft hangars, retail outlets, warehouses, halls, showrooms, manufacturing plants, industrial parks, etc. In addition to this, pre-engineered steel structures are strong and easy to build, and are also cheaper.

Depending on the type of building, the type of structure and your budget, for your construction activity, you can choose from a wide variety of pre-engineered steel structures like doors, windows, roof extensions, mansard, parapet walls, framed opening in end wall, lean-to\’s on sidewall or end wall, walk-in door, skylights, vents, downspouts, attractive colors, reflective or thermal insulation etc.

In Pre-Engineered Buildings no welding is required and it can be built up at complicated areas, where electricity is not available. While planning and designing of the PEB\’s an architects role is of great importance, because the different parts of a building are fabricated in the manufacturing facility, and are assembled together at the construction site. Thus, the planning & designing should be done precisely to avoid structures with wrong fittings.

Pre-Engineered Buildings are leading the way in the \”Building Green\” revolution. The definition of \”Building Green\” design, in terms of Pre-Engineered Buildings design and construction, is very simple. Pre-Engineered Buildings design and construction is effectively \”green\” if any negative impact on both the surrounding environment and the building occupants are eliminated by keeping in mind the diminishing global resources and the inevitable climatic changes. This approach is also called a sustainable design. Pre-Engineered Building offer infinite benefits.

The \”Green\” benefits of a Pre-Engineered Building (PEB) are as follows:

PEB\’s use steel and dont require cutting down valuable forests.

Modern steel manufacturers employ energy efficient methods in steel production that help to substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

PEB\’s are manufactured with a high proportion of recycled content, i.e. steel.

PEB\’s employ sustainable building design and construction and erect in less time than conventional building construction.

PEB\’s are fire and rust resistant and are virtually maintenance free.

PEB\’s provide healthy indoor environment.

PEB\’s are durable, cost-effective, energy efficient and green.

PEB\’s, after demolition doesnt accumulate wastage like asphalt shingles, concrete, brick and wood.

Steel building roofs used in PEB\’s reflect light and heat keeping the buildings cooler in hot weather and thus reducing cooling costs and helps in saving the environment.

PEB\’s help in reducing the carbon footprint.

Pre-Engineered Buildings are designed and engineered by trained and certified structural metal building engineers to withstand all weather and seismic conditions.

As the Pre-Engineered Buildings are built using steel, the life cycle of these buildings is long, and the appearance and durability will last for many years. Choose a quality steel building for your next construction project and go green with the \”Building Green\” revolution.

Mechanical energy is an area of science that is making strides every day. The study of how actuators produce mechanical motion by converting various forms of energy into mechanical energy is a source of great exploration. Science finds new ways to make use of actuators every day including for medical purposes. Many scientists believe that the more they study these seemingly simple machines, the more they will discover ways of helping mankind.

The way in which a linear actuator works is that there is a motor that rotates a drive screw using a synchronous timing belt drive. Some linear actuators can also use a worm gear drive or direct drive. Which ever the choice, the turning of the screw pushes a drive nut along the screw, which in turn pushes the rod out and the rotating the screw in the opposite direction will retract the rod. According to the Association of Sciences, the drive screw is either an ACME or ball thread or is belt-driven which is what gives the machine its motion. A cover tube protects the screw nut from environmental elements and contamination thus allowing for the machines use continually without the chance of it getting gummed up. Radial thrust bearings permit the screw to rotate freely under loaded conditions and gives the linear actuator its strength.

Linear actuators usually serve as part of motion control systems. These days most are run by computers. Control systems, a device that you find linear actuators in, move or control objects. This is made possible by the actuators.

There are various forms of energy that run actuators. These forms of energy include, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electrical. Linear actuators are used a lot in robotics and factory automation.

Linear motion is when an object moves in a straight line. This is the basic concept that drives the linear actuator. One has to stop and consider when choosing a linear actuator which type they need to fit the purpose of their project. Some things to keep in mind are the speed, stroke length and load rating of the actuator. Programmability of the actuator is also a factor especially when the application will be one that requires specialized detail. A linear actuator can be used in just about any forum. Ask yourself some questions when attempting to choose the right one for your project such as are there particular safety mechanisms required, environmental concerns to be addressed or space issues?

With more and more people living longer and longer, the question of quality of life is a constant concern. Some older people choose to grab life by the horns and soak up every second. Others are simply unable to do so. Still others choose to let little things get in the way of living and then watch as these problems snowball to take away their mobility and independence. For those who want to enjoy life to the fullest, sometimes a little help is needed in the form of devices such as electric wheelchairs, walkers and so on.

Using a wheelchair is not something most elderly people relish. However, for those who enjoy a relative high quality of life, this implement can be a real lifesaver. There’s no reason for an older person to sit back and rock away the rest of their lives when so many devices are available to help them overcome the troubles that can go along with normal aging. Getting a wheelchair isn’t giving in to aging, it’s fighting back and saying the person refuses to give up mobility and independence.

If an electric wheelchair is needed for a person with limited or even no mobility, there are some things to look for. Not all wheelchairs will work for every person, so custom fitting is often in order. Before buying the first chair that’s found, consider these things:

* Weight. Some chairs are designed to be more comfortable for people of higher weights. A chair designed for a 120-pound person is not likely to work well for a 200-pound man. Look at manufacturer specifications for weight limits before buying.

* Ease of use. Electric wheelchairs are meant to be easy to use and deliver mobility to those who have lost it. But sometimes the consoles and controls are too complex for some users to handle. Match the features with the person who will be using the device. A wheelchair can be a blessing for returning independence to those with mobility issues, but if the person who needs it is afraid to use it, there’s no point in the purchase.

* Charging and battery life. If the person who needs the chair enjoys long strolls or outings, make sure the battery has a lifespan to suit. A chair that only stays powered for a few hours won’t do in this case. Also make certain there are extra battery packs available and that charging is simple to handle.

* Price. Many elderly people find themselves living on a tight budget. Make certain the chair chosen fits the budget, or better yet, is covered by an insurance plan if doctor’s orders have been given.

Getting older doesn’t have to mean giving up on living. Although some older people enjoy full mobility and good health, this isn’t the case for everyone. But with some smart purchases to help overcome the little bumps in the road aging presents, most people can enjoy life to the fullest even in their 80s, 90s and beyond. A good power wheelchair can give those who have limited or no mobility a new lease on life. Making the right purchase, however, is vital for the proposition.
